FDRIO / FMC CONFERENCE: “FOUNDATIONS TO MASTERY”

NOVEMBER 16-17TH 2020


CALL FOR PAPERS AND PROPOSALS

DUE DATE: APRIL 15, 2020

CONFERENCE OPPORTUNITY:

The Family Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario (FDRIO) and Family Mediation Canada (FMC) welcome proposals for their jointly-hosted Conference: Foundations to Mastery.  This dynamic conference will be held on November 16, 2020 and will provide a premier training opportunity for family dispute resolution professionals at all levels of development. Proposals for conference sessions are welcome from family law dispute resolution professionals: mediators, arbitrators, parenting co-ordinators; lawyers, mental health professionals, and financial practitioners and academics and researchers focused on family dissolution.

The Conference will provide an array of topics that will reinforce best practices, explore current and cutting edge issues, and enhance family law dispute resolutions professionals’ practices. The programming will include a variety session types, including break out, lecture style and hands on exercises and should cater to professionals at all levels of practice, ranging from those beginning their FDR careers to experts in the family dispute resolution field.

We are inviting proposals from members of the FDR field. Selected papers and proposals will be  presented at the Conference

LOCATION:

Toronto – Venue TBD.

TOPICS CAN INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Cultural differences in Family Dispute Resolution, The challenges of co-parenting, Physical and/or emotional abuse in the separation process, Challenges of a parent living in another country, Financial awareness in separation, Understanding full and frank financial disclosure, What is in the best interests of children?, Growing your practice, Indigenous issues in mediation and arbitration, Relying on Expert Reports and Opinions in Arbitrations, Mindful ADR practice, Self-reflection and self-care in the ADR practices, Child Protection mediation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion issues in ADR, Challenges in Developing and Delivering Elder Mediation Services;, Double- dipping in family property and support, Tax Traps & Family trusts in family law, Spousal support in high income cases, New rules for Experts, Calculation of income involving pre-tax corporate income and losses, What is a CDFA & What is a CBV, Divorce Coaching, New alimony rules in the US, Religious responses to family breakdown, Case Law in FDR Practice.

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT:

To be considered as a presenter, please submit your:

  1. 250- word abstract;
  2. 50- word bio, and
  3. Indicate if you are a member of either FDRIO, FMC, or are not a member.

Please submit your abstract and information outlined above to the Conference Committee at events @fdrio.ca using the the subject line: Conference 2020 CFP Submission – your name

IMPORTANT DATES:

Due date for the abstract submission: April 15, 2020.

Acceptance is contingent upon the strength and fit of the abstract topic.
